As the largest early Baroque fortress, the Gotha Castle Friedenstein was originally surrounded by a strong Baroque fortress. The casemates below the present park, partly still buried, have been preserved. During an underground tour you can marvel at galleries, connecting staircases and corridors, elevator shafts and much more. Similarly, finds from recent use can be discovered, such as the ice cellar, beer and wine storage and air raid shelter.
Daily casemate tours take place at the following times:
January – March: 1 pm
April – October: 1 pm + 5 pm
November – March: 1 pm
