If you come to Gotha as a guest and would like to explore the historic residential town and its surroundings, you can do so not only on foot. Until October, the blue rental bicycles are once again available at Gotha’s Tourist Information at Hauptmarkt 40. In cooperation with the Travel Butler© company from Eisenach, day-trippers and Gotha citizens can actively explore the many facets of Gotha on the two-wheelers and discover the nearby excursion destinations.
Gotha is an excellent starting point for a bicycle tour. The long-distance cycle route Thüringer Städtekette (Thuringian Town Chain) runs through the town itself, connecting seven Thuringian towns and passing through scenic areas of Thuringia. Other cycle routes link up with an extensive network of cycle paths and can be combined to form individual tours. “In addition to areas of cultural experience, Gotha’s surrounding countryside offers an impressive landscape full of variety and contrasts with mixed forests, mountain meadows, natural monuments and imposing views,” enthuses Maria Meißner from the tourist information office. The available saddlebags invite you to stow your luggage and picnic utensils.
The bikes can be rented at Gotha’s Tourist Information at Hauptmarkt 40 for a daily fee of 15.00 euros or 25.00 euros (for e-bikes). They must be returned on the same day or by 9.30 a.m. the following day at the latest. Route recommendations are available at the Tourist Information Centre for interested visitors. Additional information on excursion destinations and events in and around Gotha can be found at www.gotha-adelt.de.
